Today my Mom is having surgery. I am sending lots of love and happy thoughts her way for a smooth recovery. She is an amazing person and the earth is a much better place with her in it.
I did this design recently for a Valentine card project. I've also decided to put it in my Etsy shop for sale as an art print. I just can't decide whether to keep the hearts in the design. Hmmm... not sure which is more appealing. Any thoughts?
I am continuing my quest of reinterpreting country americana in an updated style with this little rooster collection. Roosters are such funny birds in the way they move as well as their showy feathers. It's no wonder they are such a popular icon in the decorative arts.
Just finished up this new owl for my Etsy shop, Pictorialboom. He is both stylish and wise. I am thinking of offering it in different color ways. Check out the print here.
Just finished up this illustration for the cover of a kid's magazine. It is for the December issue (as if you couldn't tell, huh.) I am pleased with the little birds eating all of the treats that are falling out of the bag one of the dogs is holding. Funny, right?
These herb designs are a couple of years old, but herbs are timeless, right? I explored several color directions and never could decide which one I prefered. Seeing the basil makes me want to go have some Thai food for lunch!
I did this artwork a year or so ago and just came across it again today. Nautical styles are a mainstay in the giftware industry, so I am always working on how to do them in a trendy but classic way. I am thinking of embarking on a new collection of these ocean icons soon, so stay tuned!
In honor of the arrival of summer, here are some fresh looking citrus designs by yours truly. The flavors of lemon and orange are just about my favorites. Anything that has lemon in it is ok by me, especially sweets! Now go enjoy some summer sun.
We designed this cabinet ourselves and had a local cabinet maker build and install it recently. It turned out really nice and gives the main wall of the living room a nice focal point compliment to the fireplace next to it. It also calls to attention the angle of the ceiling and it's height. I have a feeling things will need to be carefully selected and edited to keep it from looking busy and overwhelming. I love the crispness of white cabinetry.
I am developing a line of images that are a new approach to the iconic images of Americana such as this crow. There are elements of folk art, quilted fabric and decorative patterning here that all come together in this series. I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback. Thanks and stay tuned for more soon!
This kitchen reno has taken over our lives!! However, the payoff is starting to appear on the horizon. We now have all of the cabinets installed and hope to finish off the end of the peninsula base tonight. Next come the countertops! We hope to have templates made in the next week or so for the caesarstone tops. We picked the one called "nougat". Sounds delicious, doesn't it? The backsplash tile is a sculpted white porcelain with a wave pattern. The tiles are a beautiful size of 6 inches X 24 inches each. They should give the room a clean and very fluid quality. We need to pick our 3 pendant lights which will be installed over the bar soon. Just haven't found the perfect ones yet. We love all of the pull out cabinet inserts and the large lower cabinet drawers which will be perfect for pots and pans. More updates to come later. I wonder what our first meal should be in this new kitchen?
Once in a while I will take a piece of artwork like this linework shell design and work up some mini product concepts. These can be useful for showing potential companies how the artwork could be utilized on various formats. The possibilities are endless!
These little pesky owls just keep working their way back onto my desktop. They travel in pairs now and are available as an art print in my Etsy shop, Pictorialboomhere and in another color palette here.
This butterfly is totally surrounded by a feast of flowers. I designed it for a recent giftbag project. Hopefully the saturated colors will make it irresistible to buyers!
This little birdie was inspired by American folk art. It is now available in my Etsy shop in three different color palettes. Check them out here and here and here
Here I am amongst all of the beauty!
My brother came for a visit last month and while he was here we visited the flower fields in Carlsbad north of San Diego. Apparantly, the fields were much larger at one time and produced many blooms for the cut flower industry. The fields of blooms are now a tourist destination every spring. The prolific amount of ranunculus flowers spread out over the fields in an amazing array of colors. It was a gorgeous day and our retinas were treated to a visual feast!
I just finished this little collection of fruit designs based very loosely on quilted country designs adapted to my own style. It is now available for licensing. These designs are very tasty and good for you too!
Everyone's garden grows this time of year but you may need to water it once in a while. These watering can designs will hopefully inspire you to grow a spectacular garden this year!
The time has come once again for Trader Joe's to introduce their new line of cards. Starting May first, I will have four new greeting cards in their stores. The collection will be available until the end of August, then it's a whole new collection. Best of all, they are priced right at only 99 cents each! I say, collect them all!
