The fireplace...
Our house was built in 1980 which is both good and bad depending on how you look at it. There are some great angles in the house which make it an interesting place to live. It is also very dated looking, so we are slowly giving the place a new face! The fireplace is a perfect example. When we bought the house, it's drywall surround and mantel were painted a dark chocolate brown and it had the expected ceramic fake logs. We painted it a color called "pumpkin spice" to appease us until we could really tear into the thing and give it a proper overhaul. When we finally did, we chose to sheath the entire surface with an Italian porcelain tile that looks like long strips of wood including a stylized but stylish and subtle wood-grain. We went more modern and dumped the mantel entirely and just love the clean look of it. The fake logs were banished and we said "hello" to shiny and reflective glass pieces made just for fireplaces. The light is amazing when the fire is lit!

Just for you...
I designed this greeting card for Great Arrow Graphics and it is out right now for the Valentine season. If you are not familiar with their cards, they are all hand silkscreened in New York state and this one features gold ink. The quality of their cards is a gift in and of itself. You can buy it here.

The Studio
It's Monday and it's all about work today, so I thought I would post pictures of the studio where I work in my house. The room has a nice sized closet but the doors to it were cumbersome so we removed them for easy access and filled the space with bookshelves and file boxes from IKEA. I seem to have a lot of files!! We made the desktop using plywood and the base is comprised of garage cabinetry from Lowe's. I painted horizontal stripes on two opposing walls in black, grey and camel to add some pizzazz. The rest of the room is white to keep the room light and airy. We live along a small canyon, so the view behind is green which is nice.
I hope you enjoyed the tour!

Mmmmm!
I love breakfast and usually try to have cereal with fresh fruit or oatmeal, but sometimes I hear the bakery calling my name and I just can't say no. Hello muffins and pastries! I did these muffin paintings in the fall and today they were once again calling my name.

Release the hounds!
I know you are probably saying "Wow, this blog just became adorable!" and it's true. Meet our two beagles, Ruby and Olive. Just so you know who's who, Ruby is the one who uses Olive's belly as a pillow quite often. Olive doesn't seem to mind as that's what sister's are for.

Good Morning
I have been battling a cold and every morning I look forward to a hot cup of coffee or tea. Today was certainly no exception. It has been unseasonable warm here in San Diego this week. Today's forecast calls for 75 degrees. A good day for a nap in the sun. Take that cold! (sniff sniff)

Winter has settled in...
A snow dance will help get you through the winter! I did this painting quite a while ago for a Papyrus holiday card, but it seems like a great way to spend the day in the snow (if snow happens where you live.)

New Music Obsession
I know I am a little late to the party and my friends in Kansas City are probably already aware of the fantastic local band, The Republic Tigers, but they are new to me and I am finding there music to be quite addictive. My brother gave me their disk over the holidays and I just can't get enough of it. You should check them out on Itunes or on youtube. Enjoy...

Dogs, dogs, dogs!
Who doesn't like a cheery dog pattern? I did these for a recent textile project and enjoyed playing with all of the various shapes, sizes and colors that encompass the dog kingdom.

My New Printer
We are now a three printer family! I will be selling gallery quality archival prints in my ETSY shop very soon thanks to my new Epson R1900 stylus inkjet printer. I can now make prints as large as 13 inches wide and up to 44 inches long. I will let you know when the shop is open. Until then, I need to find a place for this massive machine. All for now...
